Question for APK modders

Hi, I wanted to learn how to make my own modded apps. First off, I wanted to ask which programs do you recommend for (de)(re)compiling, signing the key and code editing. How do I start? So far I'm interested in doing simple things, such as editing money, ammo and health in different apps, I know that GG can already do that for some apps, but I wanted to make it permanent - like apps in this site that have modded data. For example there are apps for subway surf that have infinite money set in the data. How can I do something like that for other apps, which (for example) GG can't hack, cause they're either using pointers or store the values as types other than 4,2,1 byte. And I know this is probably a noob question.

In all .apks is the same file?
